Feeding: Nothing but Organic, All Day Long

From day one, our organic poultry is fed organic feed exclusively. This is in accordance with the EU-Eco-Regulations and the guidelines of the  Anbauverband Biokreis e.V. (farming association).

Our company has a shareholding in an organic feed mill which exclusively produces and delivers organic feed to our own fattening farms. The mill is inspected and certified by the Biokreis e.V. farming association. Many of our farmers grow their own grain and deliver it to the feed mill. By far the largest part of our grains and legumes stem from our own farmers. This results in a closed loop between animal husbandry and agriculture in accordance with the overall concept and aims of organic farming. In addition, there is a Biokreis e.V. recognised farm in the vicinity of the feed mill that cultivates 1000 hectares of land and supplies grain to the mill.

Further feed components are organic soy, potato protein, corn gluten as well as mineral and vitamin mixtures which are used to partially compensate for the animal based nutrients which are not present in the feed.
Freiland Puten is responsible for the purchase of raw materials, preliminary quality assurance and the development of feed formulations. Our partners provide machinery and manpower for storage, manufacturing and loading. The feed is loaded on our own feed lorries. In this way we ensure that only our own raw materials and feeds are transported in the silo tractor-trailers. This is a major tenet of our quality assurance and safety process, which avoids contamination of the feed.

The feed meets the animals’ nutritional needs in accordance with their stage of development, aiming for a high-quality product rather than maximizing output. Naturally, we do not use antibiotics, coccidiostats and other pharmaceuticals, growth enhancers or other means of growth or output promoters.
